Fleeting and Immaterial, Together

The best kind of gift is fleeting and immaterial

a quiet moment

a warm smile

the twining of a purring cat between my ankles

My gift is weightless

and elusive

It cannot be pinned or framed or put out for public display

But it can be shared

We can drink deeply together

We can look toward the stars together

Inhale the same sweet fragrance of springtime rain

and summer heat

Feel the same gentle coming down of

Autumn dusk and winter snow

I can do this with you

and I can also do this for you

When we are together in life

And even when we are separated in death

For that is what love is

Or the memory of the love we once had

It’s the gift of sensing this world

And being in this world

Together
